Title

Intimidate the Indians as well as Kill Them

Description

Blount discusses the measures he has taken to prevent further depredations by parties of marauding Creek Indians. The Cherokee chiefs have announced their peaceful disposition and the Chickasaws, having joined in the war against the Creeks, are not joined by the Choctaws who fear the loss of Spanish trade if they do not remain neutral.

notable phrase

My object in ordering these troops to range in search of the main camps of the Indians in preference of immediately on the frontier was to intimidate the Indians as well as to kill them--and from the little damage done the district of Mero compared to what might have been expected from so powerful a number, I am led to hope that object has in a great measure been effected and even in future they will not feel themselves easy on these grounds lest anothe party of horsemen should be on them.
