This letter will be handed to You by my friend Thomas Tredwell Jackson, who during our Revolution War was a Lieutenant in Sheldon's Regiment of Horse, and until the death of Lord Stirling was one of his Aids de Camp; in both of which Characters he served with great reputation.
However consoling the recollection of past services may be, Major Jackson's case affords an instance to prove, that military reputation is no security against the little vicissitudes of human life; he is now desirous of establishing his claim to the military bounty of this State, and as a means of effecting it, he is of opinion, that certain documents may be obtained from the War Office, which will tend to establish his just pretentions, I have therefore taken the liberty of troubling You, and doubt not but your friendly exertions will be cheerfully used in his behalf.
